Local Mission Projects in 2012What can God do through us this year?
Christian Challenge -- Five leaders/missionaries pour themselves into college students at the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, and Washtenaw Community College. The ongoing vision is that those students would then go and evangelize, disciple, and equip other college students. We encourage, support, and give financially, as does our long-time partner -- Living Water Community Church. www.christianchallenge.us
Upward Basketball and Cheer -- Partnering with other local churches, we are the lead sponsor for this wonderful ministry to 500+ boys and girls in our community. Upward Sports, the largest Christian sporsts league for children, provides a fun kids sports experience based on healthy competition. Last year, nearly 550,000 K5 through sixth-graders had a great kids basketball, kids soccer, kids flag football or kids cheerleading experience through more than 5,000 leagues or sports camps across the nation.
Operation Christmas Child -- Partnering with Samaritans's Purse and thousands of churches across the nation, we collect materials all year, with a final push in October, as we bless children around the world with a shoebox filled with a variety of small gifts that will bring delight to a child. In 2011, we packed 210 shoeboxes. In 2012 ??????? http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/ Holiday Food Boxes -- Partnering with local schools, we bless local families with everything they need for a nice Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. We buy the meat, church members bring all the trimmings, and we deliver the meals to the homes a few days before the holiday. Last year we served 75 families. In 2012 our goal is to serve 100 families!
Encouragement Ministry for A2 Tech High -- We bless the entire staff of A2 Technological High School (our neighbor) with a breakfast and fellowship just before the new school year begins.
Push America -- We help this nationwide ministry by hosting a cross-country bicycling team and serving them a meal. Push America has raised over $15 million to benefit people with disabilities and organizations dedicated to their service.
The Gideons -- We help this international ministry by opening our facilities for their use on the day of their annual "Bible Blitz" to the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, and the greater Ann Arbor community. www.gideons.org
